It is recommended that you read these instructions to assist in the assembly of the decking kits.

As timber is a natural material it will expand and shrink depending on the humidity levels
surrounding the area. During hot weather shrinkage may occur and result in warping or splitting of the wood, although this will largely reverse once cooler and wetter weather returns. Please note that this will not have any detrimental effect on the structural quality of the deck.

Tools required for this project, power screwdriver, level, tape measure. Please note that the
instructions are based on two people completing the work, and you may wish to pre drill the holes prior to placing onto the deck.

1. Choose the position of your deck, you may wish to use strings and pegs to mark out the area.

2. Ensure that the area for your deck is level

3. If you are using weed barrier place in the area where the deck will go

4. Construct the outer frame first using 4” x 2” joists to create the initial frame, secure each end by using 2 x 100mm screws.

5. Evenly place the remaining 4” x 2” joists and then secure to the outer frame by using 2 x 100mm screws in each end of the bearers.

6. You will then have a completed your frame to commence placing the deck board onto.

7. Position each newel flush on the inside of the frame of the deck, it is important that the newels are at the same height before drilling through the newel and joists. Use 3 x 100mm screws per newel.

8. Where each Newel is positioned you will need to measure around the newel and cut out the same area on the deck board prior to fitting.

9. The next step is to secure the deck boards in position using 2 x 50mm screws into each support bearer, ensuring that they run flush with the outside edge of the bearers.

10. Position the deck boards equally along the support bearers, ensure that there is approximately a 5mm space between each deck board as this allows for movement. Secure the deck board by using 2 x 50mm deck screws onto each joist. After completing instruction number 10 you should have 4 deck boards left, these boards are for facing off the decking area.

11. Prior to completing the balustrade make up each section, measure in between each newel. Then you can cut 3 pieces of handrail to size (1 for the bottom section and 2 for the top). Each spindle should be spaced at approximately 100mm intervals, please check measurements before fixing together as this may vary slightly as each side is not of an equal length (eg the kit is not 1.8m x 1.8m).

12. Once you are happy with each balustrade section use the 50mm deck screws to secure the spindles to the hand and base rail. You must screw up from underneath at the bottom of the base rail into the spindle and then screw down into one of the hand rails at the top into the spindle. The balustrade at this point will look like the picture below (please note the spindles are not spaced at 100mm and the picture is for demonstration purposes only).

13. Once you have secured all spindles, place the 3rd piece of hand rail onto the top of the section and secure by using the 40mm deck screws, screwing from underneath the handrail to nip together, ensure that you do not screw completely through both handrails. By completing each section in this way you will not be able to see any screw heads within the balustrade section.

14. Then screw the hand rail to each newel by using the l-brackets on the underneath of the rail (see picture below), 40mm deck screws can be used.

15. To secure the bottom part of the balustrade section you can screw in at intervals at the bottom of the spindles at an angle through the base rail and into the deck board. By screwing in at an angle the screw head should not be seen, 50mm deck screws can be used.

16. Finally place the remaining deck board at each end with the profile facing out by using the 50mm deck screws.

Aftercare – All timber provided is pressure treated but to ensure longevity continue to re-treat with a wood preservative each year.
